How to Make Homemade Carpet Cleaner

Carpets require regular cleaning and can quickly accumulate buildup. Many times your regular run of the vacuum is not enough to get you the desired result, and professional carpet cleaning services typically exceed your budget by far. Instead, you want to figure out a way to make your own homemade carpet cleaner. This allows you to successfully clean the carpet the way you want without high expense of a professional service or commercial cleaners.

Things You'll Need

• Cornstarch
• Vacuum cleaner
• Spray bottle
• Water
• Laundry detergent
• White vinegar
• Cleaning rags
• Borax
• Salt

Instructions

1. Sprinkle cornstarch over the carpet to absorb moisture and spills. Let it sit for about 30 minutes and vacuum to collect the cornstarch.

2. Fill a spray bottle with equal portions of water and white vinegar. Mist around the carpet to clean and deodorize.

3. Remove stains by blotting with a damp rag drizzled with laundry detergent. Blot until all residue is removed, then wipe with a damp rag to remove any leftover detergent.

4. Deep-clean stains with a paste of equal parts borax, white vinegar and salt. Rub the mix into the stains, let it sit for 30 minutes, then scrub with a damp cloth drizzled with laundry detergent. Rinse the cleaning rag, wring out and wipe over the carpet to remove all leftover residue.
