Here is a nice effective way to teach your dog how to sit.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • DOg Treats
  1. Step 1

First thing you want to do is get your dogs attention. The best way to do this is to teach the dog to look at you when you click your tounge. A good effective way to do that is click your tounge at the dog and when the dog looks up, reward them. Some dogs like treats, other enjoy fetch just as much some even prefer just to be praised and pet. Do that a couple of times to teach your dog that when you make that click it means a treat.

  2. Step 2

Now use that click as a signal, that will be the signal that means they get a reward. Step in front of your dog with their reward in hand, hold the treat above their head so they kind of have to look up at it. Just hold it there and when their butt touches the floor make the click sound with your mouth and give them the reward they earned.

  3. Step 3

At first you dont need to use the word "Sit" but after they understand that hand above their head say the word with the action of your head above their head.

  4. Step 4

Do that a couple of times until the dog gets the hang of it. After practicing that a couple of times a day for a week you should not need to reward them and you should only need to say the command without putting your hand above their head.
