The very first thing you want to make sure is that the Cholla wood has not been treated with chemicals or painted. It needs to be dried out and in its natural form. You can use it for bird perches and they just love it.You can take the Cholla wood and run a standard perch through the middle and attach it to the side of the cages.Birds love to peck away at the cholla wood they will even hide there seeds and nuts in the holes and crevices of the wood. The Cholla wood also keeps there feet and nails in good shape.

What I like to do with Cholla wood is use it in fish tanks.I take a piece of slate and drill a hole in the bottom of the slate.I Then run a screw up through the slate into the cholla wood. This way the slate and gravel will keep the wood from floating to the service.Make sure you use a screw that will not rust since this will be harmful to fish.I like to run a small air stone into the wood where the air bubbles escape through all the small holes in the wood.

Cholla wood from the Southwest and Mexico also make great pieces to put on your shelves or bookcases. If you have a southwestern style room it looks great around Native American pottery and pictures of the old west. There are many decorating ideas that you can do with Cholla wood from lamps, wall hangings, picture frames and so on.

If you have a reptile tank just place the Cholla wood in the tank.Reptiles love to sun them selves under your tank light while sitting on the wood.If the reptile is small enough they will try and work there way through the center of the wood.
