This is a simple article on how to increase the number of stitches with a k1f&b (Knit 1 front and back.) Though slightly confusing in the beginning, this is an easy stitch to master.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 2 knitting needles, they can be dpn, or straight needles.
  • Yarn
  1. Step 1

Have all your cast on, or developing work, on your left hand needle.

  2. Step 2

Knit into the stitch as you would with a regular knit stitch (the foundation stitch), but do not allow the yarn to slip onto your right hand needle.

  3. Step 3

This is where you knit into the back of the work, swing your needle to the back of the work and through the left arm of your foundation stitch (the foundation stitch is the stitch your are knitting front & back.)

  4. Step 4

You will notice that the stitch has now been twisted into a "figure 8." Now you simply route your working yarn through the top of the "figure 8" and let the work slide onto your right hand needle. Well done!

Tips & Warnings
  • Be patient with yourself, though a simple stitch once learned, the steps can be confusing.
