Building a new brochure can be tricky. Adobe Photoshop is a great draw program for the professional graphic artist.

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Adobe Photoshop computer program.
  • A jpeg picture import program. I use several different kinds, including my camera.
  1. Step 1
    Adobe PhotoShop Elements

Using Adobe Photoshop computer program to make a brochure is a bit challenging. You will need to practice your skills at importing pictures and adding text. Merging and erasing is a skill also needed. Once you have practice a bit you can use this program for just about anything graphic.

  2. Step 2
    File Menu

In PhotoShop, New file, open a window for sizing your drawing. I use inches instead of pixels. I made this brochure a half page brochure: 51/2"x8.5" with 1/2" margins each side. This works on a horizontal-standard size, 11x8.5" paper.

  3. Step 3

Using the line tool draw your margins in (these will be erased at a latter time).

Import your graphics. These graphics need to be imported with a camera or uploaded from the internet for example.

When you click on the image it will put handles around the picture, you can then drag it to the appropriate spot. Add your text and place it in the areas for great visual impact.

  4. Step 4
    Two Brochures

    Two Brochures

Keep you pictures and text within your margins. When you have the one brochure complete you will need to merge your text and pictures together. This is done on the layer tab with merge. This makes your text and pictures one picture. You can then select the entire drawing and copy. Paste the copy and move it to the adjacent side for two brochures per page. If you are interested or so inclined, try working with the layers tool. This tool can make life a little easier when you want to edit your brochure.

  5. Step 5

Once you have merged your drawings and text together, you can then erase areas and lines with your eraser tool. I save every few minutes. It's horrible to work for hours on a project and have something fail or the computer shut down. So save your files often. These will save as a PhotoShop (psd) File format. This format is editable if saved as a psd format. Once your merge all your graphics and text for a jpeg file, it's much more difficult to edit. If you are going to download this file for publishing, you will might need to make it a jpeg picture file.(Check with your printer) Do a "Save As" and at the file format box, save it as a jpeg file. This is a universal picture file and most publishers will be able to open it.

This program isn't the easiest program to make a brochure in. I now use Adobe CS or Publisher or Pagemaker depending on the application.

    Good luck,
    sk

Tips & Warnings
  • Practice, Practice, Practice. This program needs time to sink in.
  • Make sure you save your files every few minutes.
  • Remember to save as both a psd format and a jpeg format.
  • Don't give up.
