There are instances where you may want to transfer your music FROM your iPod TO your computer. Say, for example, that your computer's hard drive breaks, but you have most of your music on your iPod.

There are software solutions to extracting your media, but they usually cost money. Though it might be just a bit more time-consuming, you can do it for free.

      Plug your iPod into your computer. go to My Computer, and select your iPod folder.

      In the bar at the top of the folder, select Tools> Folder Options > View. Then scroll down the list until you see "Show Hidden Files and Folders," and click it so that it's checked.

      Going back to your iPod folder, you will see a semi-transparent folder named

      Go back to your iPod folder/drive, there you will find a new folder called "iPod_Control." Open it, and you'll see folders with names such as "F01." You music is in these files, though it's not organized in way that is convenient for you. Regardless, you can go through each one, and drag all the contents into a new folder on your computer (it's best to make a new folder on your Desktop, and later put it where you want).

      Once you do that, you can go back to iTunes and add this folder to your library.
