Things You'll Need:
- A little bit of a budget to buy a few beauty products
- The desire for some personal changes
-
Step 1
Get inspired! You don't just have to do the same old highlights in the summer and solid hair color in the winter. Really zero in on what you like stylistically. Whatever you love, just go ahead and let yourself get into it.
-
Step 2
Modify the styles you love to fit your everyday life. I love 1930's pin-ups, but I don't want to cut my hair. Instead, I'll go one shade darker and learn how to do finger waves. What can you do to give your look a little kick without having to do something drastic that you may regret? A makeover can start with something as simple as an at-home clear gloss.
-
Step 3
You've had your hair in a hat all winter, prepare it for freedom.Spring for a trim or a haircut. These days, we're all scraping to get by. But you deserve a trip to the salon, just for the experience of feeling pampered. And hey, you're stimulating the economy. Just go to someone you trust and tell them exactly what you want.
-
Step 4
Know that small changes can make BIG differences. Often times, we go overboard with our at-home makeovers. We cut our own bangs, we try to bleach out hair, or we over pluck our eyebrows! But you're already beautiful, you don't need a one-eighty. You just deserve to have some fun with your look. So...
-
Step 5
Be willing to spend a little to take care of yourself. I'm not talking big bucks. But consider going to Wal-Mart or another discount super store and buying some new nail polish, some hot oil hair treatments, face mask, or a couple of new pieces of makeup. You can even hit up the goodwill for a few new wardrobe pieces, like a new cardigan or a vintage pencil skirt!
-
Step 6
Start your makeover from the inside out. Promise yourself one big change toward your health. This spring, I'm going to just drink water, coffee and iced tea, without sugar. I know that completely cutting out sodas and sugar will improve my figure, but it will also be a tiny change that will help me to feel in control and proud of myself.
-
Step 7
Try some spring vegetables and/or some recipes centered around seasonal food. The groceries will be cheaper, and you'll get to enjoy some fresh food!
-
Step 8
Get OUTSIDE and enjoy the spring weather. Challenge yourself to a short walk every day, enjoy the fresh air, and get a little sunshine the natural way! You may experience some minor weight-loss, but I'd put money down that your mood will improve if you take time to get out of the house and office every day.
-
Step 9
Allow yourself some natural mood enhancers without telling yourself, "I shouldn't be doing this". Watch some of your FAVORITE films, a musical, an adventure, an old movie, whatever perks you up! Who cares if nobody else in the house likes it, sometimes you deserve to do something YOU want to do.
-
Step 10
Sometimes giving yourself an at-home makeover, especially around spring-time, can just help you to reconnect with yourself. Don't be afraid to take this time to reflect on how you're feeling, what this winter was like, how you want things to change, or what you miss about the way you "used to be". You don't EVER have to let yourself go, no matter what the economy is like. You DESERVE better and it's okay to admit it!
-
Step 11
Last, but certainly not least, go into frump-prevention mode. If it doesn't fit you or you haven't worn it in a year, throw it away! If you wear the same thing every day, put it away. Try new things. Wear shoes that make you feel pretty and experiment with makeup. ENJOY being a woman and playing with your style. It's okay to have fun! Happy Spring!
