How to Make Money with No Money

Save

Making money with no money to invest presents you with a difficult, but not insurmountable, challenge. If you possess or can borrow the use of basic technology and services, such as a computer and Internet access, have skills or a willingness to work, you can make money without investing a single dime.

Babysitting Services

Offering to babysit for friends and neighbors requires nothing more than a conversation and supplies a much needed service to families. As Entrepreneur Magazine reports, good babysitting services often thrive on the all-important and free word-of-mouth marketing done by satisfied customers. Babysitting typically happens either at the child’s home or in your own home and requires no special equipment. If you have a day job, you can limit your hours to evenings, or a few evenings a week, and still bring in money without spending anything.

Dog Walker

Busy professionals often prove too busy to walk their dogs during the day, so they hire someone else to deal with it. To avoid up-front leash costs, include "owner-supplied leash" as a requirement in your ads. You can list your service for free on online classified sites, as well as encourage word-of-mouth by spreading the word to friends and family about your dog walking service. The experts over at Dog*Tec suggest that social media marketing does not always generate new clients, but often does serve as a brand loyalty booster. Be warned that, in most places, dog walkers must clean up any poop their doggie wards leave on the ground. Leftover plastic grocery bags provide a free solution to that problem.

Website Design

If you know how to design a website, or can muster the patience to learn the necessary HTML, Javascript and CSS, you can launch a website design business with no money. A number of sites offer free website hosting and domain/subdomain names, and you can build your own website to support the new business. A simple email to friends and business associates letting them know you now offer website design services starts the marketing ball rolling for free.

Freelance Writing

If you bring good grammar and composition skills to the table, as well as some basic research skills, freelance writing offers a no-cost business option. A number of websites offer writers the opportunity to write articles at a flat fee per-article, after the writer completes a free, online application process. In most cases, the process consists of submitting basic personal information or a resume and a writing sample. Freelance blogging expert Sophie Lizard provides information on numerous blogs and websites that accept freelance submissions and queries, either by email or submission forms on the site, and pay for the articles or blog posts they accept.

Online Auction Sales

Even when you lack money, you probably don’t lack for serviceable belongings you can live without, such as old CDs, DVDs, electronics and books. Entrepreneurship business author Cheryl Kimball suggests online auction sites as a venue to offload those belongings for a profit. Some auction sites, such as Bonanza, charge no listing fees and make their money by taking a percentage after you make a sale.
