Step 1
Ensure that you have Internet Explorer 6 or later installed on your computer. Also make sure that you have the latest version of Java installed.
-
Step 2
Navigate to the Kaspersky online virus scanner. Click "Scan Now." Read the information provided in the new window and click "Accept" if you choose to continue. Click "Run" if prompted to do so. Wait while the virus scanning software downloads to your computer. If you have run the Kaspersky virus scanner before, wait for the software to update. When the download is finished, disable any desktop anti-virus software you have installed and click "My Computer" under the "Scan" menu.
-
Step 3
Browse to the Symantec Security online virus scanner. Click the start button under "Virus Detection." Read and accept the license agreement. Install the ActiveX control when prompted. The scan will begin automatically when the software has installed. Check the virus scan window later to see how many files the Symantec software scanned and whether or not it found any viruses.
-
Step 4
Go to the Trend Micro HouseCall online virus scanner. Open the terms of use in a separate browser window and read them. Click the check box beside "Yes, I accept the Terms of Use" and click "Launch HouseCall." Select either the Java version or the browser plug-in version of Trend Micro HouseCall's free online virus scan. Install the ActiveX control if prompted to do so. Click "Scan complete computer for malware, greyware and vulnerabilities."
-
Step 5
When the results of your online virus scans are complete, save them to your hard drive or write them down. Be sure to make a note of the folders where the software found viruses and other threats on your computer. Navigate to the folders and delete the infected files manually.
