How to Schedule Your Homeschool Day
Learning to schedule your homeschool day is an important part of homeschool preparation. Once you come up with a useful and effective schedule, your homeschool day will run more efficiently. Here are some tips to create a weekly schedule for your homeschool day.

Make a list of all outside activities that your family will participate in this week. Write these down in your weekly planner. Also, write down when you will go grocery shopping and run any other errands that need to be done this week during the course of the homeschool day.

Decide what time will work best for you to concentrate on bookwork. Many homeschooling families do this in the morning. Some prefer the afternoon. Choose a consistent two- to four-hour block of time that will fit into your day for at least four homeschool days per week. Block this time off in your planner.

Make a list of the subjects that you would like to cover with each child. Make note of any overlap. For example, you may have three children with three separate math levels, but they may all be studying space for science. Choose a time for them all to work on math (separately) and a time for them all to work on science (together). Do this for all subjects.

Decide when you have time to accomplish household chores within your homeschool day. Remember that children should have chores assigned to them as well. Many families find that taking an half-hour twice per day to tidy the house and do tasks such as laundry works well for them. Pencil these into your planner as well.

Repeat this every weekend for the week ahead. Soon you will see a pattern, and will be able to plan a schedule for your homeschool days accordingly, perhaps for more than one week at a time.

Stay flexible. While it's important and helpful to plan a schedule for your homeschool day and week, nothing is set in stone. Use pencil.
Don't over-schedule yourself. It is good to have some free time built into each day.
