How to Make Sure Keywords are Effective

Every article or web site writer knows the importance of the use of proper keywords. Better keywords equal better earnings. Keywords are the words or phrases that the average internet surfer will type into a search to find an article. In order for readers to find your article, you want to use plenty of keywords. However, keyword quantity, though important, is not as important as keyword quality. The goal is to apply keywords effectively so they help your article or website and increase the chances of surfers finding your article. You can use plenty of keywords in your writing, use the right keyword density, and still not be found by the search engines if you are not using proper keywords. So, how can you check to see if your article or website is using the right keywords? Read on to make sure your keywords are effective.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1
Visit Google Adwords to help choose proper keywords for your writing content.
Visit Google Adwords to help choose proper keywords for your writing content.

Point your web browser to: https://adwords.google.com/select/KeywordToolExternal. You can link directly to Google Adwords via the Resources section of this article.

  2. Step 2

Google Adwords is not only a keyword tool used to get new keyword ideas, but also a way to check your article or website to assure that you are using the correct, desired keywords.

  3. Step 3
Find keywords related to the content in your article or web page.
Find keywords related to the content in your article or web page.

Click on "Website Content." You will now see an open box that asks for the Website URL to find keywords related to the content on the page or in your article.

  4. Step 4

Copy your article's link location, or URL, into the "Website Content" box. Click on "Get Keyword Ideas" and you will be given a list of the keywords that pertain to the content of the URL you entered. For example, I wrote an article titled "How to Remove Hairspray Buildup From Hair." When I enter the link location URL into the website content field and click on "Get Keyword Ideas," I am given the top keywords related to my article. The top keywords or keyword phrases generated were:

    *hair care
    *hair care products
    *natural hair care products
    and *hair treatment

Since my article pertains to all of these keywords, I am satisfied with the keywords my article generates.

However, if the same article URL generated keywords such as hair loss, hair extensions, or hair restoration (none of which really relate to my article), then I know that I need to do some work on my article so that the keywords it generates are more relevant to the article topic.

  5. Step 5

Now, look at the keywords generated. Are the keywords appropriate? Do the keywords match the content of you article or web site? Take a few minutes to analyze the results. If you feel that the generated keywords do not match the content of your article or site, you will want to edit your writing to optimize your keywords.

Tips & Warnings
  • Google Adwords is a great way to generate new keyword ideas for your article topic and will help you write search engine friendly content.
