I have done a lot of things in my life from being a bail enforcement agent to a bull rider! Riding bulls was by far the most dangerous and challenging of all! It is a sport unlike any other in the world! There is something about trying to control something that is just not in your control that makes the heart race! Maybe it is just the fact that 2000 lbs of pissed off animal could kill you! YEP! That is probably it! I have had some pretty bad injuries but I also had some of the greatest experiences of my life in the rodeo!
I remember what it was like to want to be a bull rider and I knew nothing about what I was about to encounter!
So you want to ride the wind! How do you get started and what do you do to get there? Here is a few steps to help you on your way!

Difficulty: Challenging
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • strong will
  • healthy body
  • equipment
  • the ability to overcome
  1. Step 1

Prepare yourself! Keep in good physical shape! Understand most bull riders don't make it! You want to be in good physical shape to be able to withstand the stresses you are going to put your body through!

  2. Step 2

If this is what you want to do in life, spend some money and go to a bull riding school! There are some good ones out there! Check On the internet! If you don't have enough money you can do as I did! Old school! Check at local arenas and see if they are having any jackpots, buck outs, or practices!

  3. Step 3

Go down and watch a few! See what you are about to get into! Now ask who is in charge of the arena. It may take a minute of asking to find the person in charge of the event! After you find out then ask if they know of any riders that would help you out! They probably can find someone, as the guys always like to see if a newbie has the balls, excuse my french, to even get on! They will let you try believe me! By the way! You will not ride your first one unless they put you on a milk cow!

  4. Step 4

What about equipment? You don't have any? They will most likely let you borrow some. It will be worth the laugh for them! You will need your own boots! I never let anyone borrow my boots.

  5. Step 5

Listen to what they tell you! You will forget it real soon! I will have a bunch of tips for you to read but, basically there is only one more step! Do it! They will give you tips, advise, instruction, resin your rope, pick your bull, set you on it, wrap your hand, pull your rope, and ask if you are ready! You just have to nod your head!!!!!

Tips & Warnings
  • You will not remember much about your first ride! It will be a black blurr!
  • Have medical insurance!
  • It can take anywhere between 25 to 50 rides before you "cover one" or ride a full 8 seconds!
  • Buy good equipment no cheap stuff!
  • When starting out use white resin not black! As you will get hung up easier with black!
  • If you get hung up! Stay on your feet!
  • Death may result! Injury always will! You will get hurt!
