This is an amazing bread pudding, full of my personal touches, lol! It is not just for Easter but it is definitely a special occasion dessert. Yummy, gooey and chocolate-y! Perfect for Easter dinner or whenever you want to make any occasion a celebration.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 1/2 loaf hawaiian bread, stale
  • 1 loaf challah or french loaf bread , stale cubed total bread - (5 cups of bread total)
  • 1/2 cup Bailey's cream liquer
  • 1/4 cup Kahlua liquer
  • 1 can sweetened condensed milk
  • 1 cup milk
  • 3 eggs
  • 5 ounces semi-sweet chocolate, melted
  • 3 ounces white chocolate, melted
  • 1 cup mini semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1 cup slivered almonds
  • 1 teaspoon espresso powder
  • 1 stick of butter
  1. Step 1

    Put cubed stale bread into large bowl. Melt both chocolates. Beat together sweetened condensed milk, regular milk, Bailey's cream, Kahlua and melted chocolates. Add eggs one at a time. Pour custard over bread and allow to soak for 10 - 15 minutes. Stir in small semi-sweet chocolate chips.

    Meanwhile, in a skillet, roast the almonds over medium heat for about 8 minutes, until just brown. Add the butter, brown sugar and espresso powder. Simmer over low heat until butter is melted. Grease large glass baking dish. Pour half the bread custard mix into baking dish. Sprinkle with half the almond mixture. Add the rest of the bread and top with toasted almonds.

    Bake in a 350 degree, pre-heated oven for 35 -45 minutes. Let your bread pudding set for about 10 minutes, then serve with a scoop of vanilla bean ice cream.

Tips & Warnings
  • This really is a "Crowning Glory" original version of a recipe!
  • One of the great things about bread pudding is how you can fiddle around with the flavors of the custard. Don't be shy, have fun creating your own version!

on 4/27/2009 I've only tried to make bread pudding once an my niece said it was awful! (lol) Of course, she hates bread pudding. I might have to give this one a try.
