How to become a Catholic.

    The Catholic Church is one of the largest and most powerful institutions throughout the world. Completely understanding religion in general is impossible for any one to figure out or explain. Basically, there is not all that much difference between certain protestant denominations and the Catholic faith. Essentially, Catholics and Protestants share the same beliefs as it pertains to the scripture. However, the major differences between Catholic and Protestant beliefs are the "man made rules of the church".

    For whatever reason people sometimes change religions. I have known Lutherans that turned Catholic as well as Episcopalians changing to Catholic. If someone wants to become a Catholic there are certain things that they must to before they can enter in to the Catholic faith. First, most people are Baptized as a baby no matter what your religious beliefs are. Catholic's are baptized as infants also.

    The first step in becoming Catholic is for the person to meet with a local Catholic priest and discuss your conversion. Next, after speaking with you, the priest will tell you that you will have to enroll in Catholic (CCD) classes which are normally held on Saturdays & Sundays. In addition, the church requires that some one who converts must be Baptized as a Catholic. Next, the person will have to also receive the sacrament of reconciliation (confession), followed by Confirmation.

    The complete process of becoming Catholic can probably be completed within 6 months to one year. It is important that the new member understand completely the Catholic faith as well as understanding Catholic Doctrine and what it represents. There are a number of books for sale that does explain the Catholic faith in great detail. Catholic are very ceremonial. First, a ceremony is held for First Holy Communion, Reconciliation or Confession, followed by Confirmation when Catholics are anointed with oil and receive the power of the Holy Spirit.

    There are also a number of "Feast Days" which are celebrated in the Catholic Church. The church no longer takes the position that a person is saved through prayer and good works. Converting to Catholicism can be a rewarding and exciting experience.
