How to Stop An Argument From Getting Worse
Too often, arguments or fights grow from something that could have been prevented with patience, taking a step back, and calming down. Being able to stop an argument from getting worse will also decrease the chances of regretting anything that you say or do, which often happens when arguments escilate. So, there are a few small, easy, effective ways of easing the tentions in an argument, ultimately stopping an argument from getting worse.

Stop interacting with whomever you are arguing with. Being able to leave the situation or wherever the argument is taking place will allow both parties to cool their heads off, which can help from any more hurt from occuring.

Take one minute to stop thinking about the argument, and instead just get your mind paying attention to something else. This could include playing a card game, going for a jog, or listen to a song.

Rethink about why you are arguing. Sometimes the argument could have started from something so insignificant. By retracing your steps of the arugument, you may find the cause of the argument.

Learn to be the passive, meaning avoid arguing and conflict at any cost.

Write in a journal about your argument, and learn to just write whatever is on your mind. Allowing yourself to write whatever is on your mind will help tap into your unconscious thoughts, which can really get to the meaning of an argument. Sometimes people do not feel comfortable writing about their feelings and about bad situations, like arguments, however doing so is an excellent and healthy way of releasing thoughts and emotions.
