Ingrown Toenail

Ingrown toenails, although not dangerous to our overall health, are extremely painful and quite bothersome. For several months, both my husband and I suffered from ingrown toenails which seem to ruin any type of horse play between us. Moments of laughter and goofing off were interrupted by shrieks of pain, a stream of blood, and a punch to my husband's gut every time he "accidentally" stepped on my throbbing toe. It took months of trying to dig out that miserable toenail, but it finally happened. My ingrown toe nail was finally removed, yippie! I am lucky to say I am, now, ingrown toenail free without having to resort to visiting the Dr. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

Keep it clean. Make sure to wash the toe with soap and warm water. The affected area should be washed daily to remove any bacteria and excess pus that might have developed throughout the day.

Gather your necessary tools. Tools you will need are a toenail file, nipper/clipper, and tweezers. Make sure these tools have been kept clean and sterile to avoid the spread of germs and bacteria. Aside from those, keep cotton balls, q-tips and alcohol.

Optional * Try this home remedy. The night before you will be removing the ingrown toe nail, wrap your affected toe with a piece of wheat bread. Make sure to leave it on throughout the night. This will soften the area so it won't make it as difficult to get through to the nail.

    • 4

Soak your foot in warm water and Epsom salt. Before you begin digging, make sure you've allowed your toe to soak in water. This will soothe the affected area.

    • 5

Apply lotion to your toe. Make your toe soft so when digging you won't have to apply much force to get through.

    • 6

Start digging. Use the file to dig your way to the nail. Use the tweezers to help you pull the nail out.

    • 7

As needed, remove pus or blood with some alcohol on a q-tip. Make sure to dab it gently and keeping the area clean.

    • 8

Be strong. Don't give in to the pain. You'll be so happy when all is over.
