How to Refinish Wheels Using Dupli-Color Wheel Paint
Dupli-Color wheel paint is available in several factory-looking finishes for restoring your wheels to their factory finish or a custom look. The paint is acrylic enamel and resists brake dust, chips, chemicals and cleaners. You can use Dupli-Color wheel paint on any type of wheel since it adheres to aluminum, steel and plastic. No matter what type of wheels you have to paint, you can use Dupli-Color wheel paint to make them look new again.

Instructions

1
Remove the wheels from your vehicle. Use four jack stands to hold the vehicle up, or use a different set of wheels and tires to put on it while these wheels are being painted.
-
2
Wash the wheels with car soap and a sponge. Remove all loose dirt, brake dust and road grime. Rinse the wheels and let them dry completely.
-
-
3
Scuff the entire surface of the wheel, using the green scuff pad. Scuff the wheel until the surface is evenly dull.
-
4
Rinse the sanding dust off the wheels and let them dry completely. Go over any glossy areas with the scuff pad again. Place masking paper underneath the edge of the wheels to protect the tires from overspray. Cover the air valve stems and any other areas that you don't want to paint.
-
5
Wipe the dry wheels with wax-and-grease remover and a microfiber towel. The remover evaporates quickly and will disappear in less than two minutes. It does not need to be cleaned off the wheel before you paint it.
-
6
Shake the can of Dupli-Color wheel paint vigorously for a full minute. Spray a light coat of paint on each wheel. Hold the can 6 to 8 inches from the surface of the wheel and move left and right, not up and down. Let the paint dry for 30 to 45 minutes.
-
7
Shake the can of paint again and spray a second coat onto the wheels. Repeat the previous painting step to put an additional four or five coats on the wheels. Let each coat dry for 30 to 45 minutes before applying the next. Wait a full 24 hours before mounting the rims back onto your vehicle.

To spray four wheels, you need three to four cans of paint, depending on how thick you spray the coats.
Don't paint the wheels while they are mounted on the vehicle or runs will occur.
