Get your MP3s. An MP3 is just a compressed audio format recognized on computers and some audio players, and now also many stereo systems as well, including many new car stereos. You may already have an MP3 collection, but if you don't, you'll need to get some MP3's buy either downloading them from a music download service or copying your existing regular CDs onto your computer. In order to get your songs onto your computer, you will need to use a ripping program. Ripping programs can cost money or can be free. They can also be simple or complex. Some popular easy and free programs include iTunes and Windows Media Player (see Resources below). In the settings of these rippers, you must make sure it is set to make MP3 files and not AAC or WMA files.

Gather your MP3s in one folder and put them in the order you want. You can use the above-mentioned programs or even Windows Explorer or other CD burning software to copy the files onto CD. If you're using the above type of software, you can make a playlist of the files you want to burn to the disc. Again, make sure you select MP3 as the type of CD to make. If you're using a CD burning program, make sure you set the program to burn a data CD. If you're just using Windows Explorer, just copy the files into the empty CD pane--but be warned that they will likely be put in alphabetic order.

Use a new CD-R for your MP3 CD. You can also use CD-RWs, but they tend not to last as long and don't always play in as many systems or stereos. Burn the disc now and try not to use your computer for very much or it could cause errors burning the CD. If you're using Windows Explorer or another burning program, make sure you close the disc.
