Wash out your child's ear after swimming in a pool, lake or ocean.

If you are planning to swim a lot this summer you may want to protect your ears from swimmer's ear or an ear infection. Ears are sensitive to chemicals and germs that may be in swimming pools, lakes and oceans.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

COMBINE - In a glass dish combine 1/4 cup rubbing alcohol and 1/4 cup white household vinegar. If you have some left over, you can use it the next day. Just cover it with plastic wrap.

  2. Step 2

PLASTIC MEDICINE DROPPER - Find a plastic medicine dropper normally used for babies or a plastic syringe (no needle). They are given away free at most pharmacies. You will need something to inject the liquid into the ear.

  3. Step 3

WASH - Use the plastic medicine dropper to suck up a small amount of the rubbing alcohol/white vinegar mixture. Have the adult or child lay on their side with a towel under their head. Squirt the mixture into the ear. You only need to wait briefly and then have them turn to the other side. The mixture will run out. Squirt the mixture into the opposite ear.

  4. Step 4

This mixture will prevent infections in the ear and keep the ear clean. Do not put any objects in to the ear.

on 5/20/2009 Nicely written article about preventing swimmer's ear. I would always get infection during the summer months when I was in the pool all day. This type of drops really works to reduce the frequency of getiing infections.
