How to Time Management- Keep a Time Log while trying to manage your time

Before you can start to manage your time, you’ve got to know how you spend it now. As you began your day carry a pen and a pocket notebook with you everywhere you go. This way you can keep track of your activities.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Your first step is to start recording your activities.
Every 15 minutes or so, jot down what you’re doing. Begin by writing a short phrase: “Breakfast,” “Get ready for work,” Phone call to Beth.”

  2. Step 2

    Determine your activities.
For most of the day you will need to make entries as you go along. Don’t wait until the end of the day! This way we will determine the activities you actually do on a regular basis.

  3. Step 3

    Manage time log.
Keep the time log for at least a week- preferably two for better results. Also keep a time log for at home. By doing this you will get an overall picture of how you spend your entire day, in all areas of your life. You’ll have a better chance to see what should stay or what is a wasting your time.

  4. Step 4

And of course be honest the log is for your benefit! If you think you spend to much time at the beauty salon and feel that some of that time should be spent at home. Be honest and make the proper cut backs.
