To begin, sign into your Twitter account. If you read my article on How to make friends on Twitter you may remember that it is important to decide why you are on Twitter and what you want to accomplish. This information will help you decide how to create an interesting home page. For the purposes of this article we will assume you are there to promote yourself, your web site and your business.

Now go to your settings page. You can reach this through a link at the top left of your home page screen. The first tab is an outline of your account information. If you have not already done so add your website address in the space half way down the page that is labeled "More Info URL". A link to your web page will then appear on your home page. Under that you can create a one line bio. Make this bio as specific as possible. This is your first opportunity to introduce yourself to your Twitter followers.

Next go to the "picture" tab. This is where you will upload a picture of yourself. Make it a nice one. This is the only image people will have of you and it will appear as your icon next to your Twitters. Use a photo of yourself rather than icon. People like to connect with people on Twitter. Use a friendly, happy photo.

Now move to the design tab. This is where you will bring your Twitter home page to life. Twitter provides a few generic backgrounds but it is important to make your page unique. Instead of using their templates, use a photo that is representative of you and/or your business. Use your business logo or an image of a product you sell.

Click where it says "change background image" and you will be provided with a link to upload a photo. You can then either tile the image or use the full image. You will want to play with this until you find something that looks good and works well as your Twitter home page.

Next, click on the "change design colors" link and you can change the color detail to colors that work with your photo. You can change your background color, your sidebar color, text, links and border. Once you have done this you will be very impressed with the results and your Twitter Identity will make a good impression on your friends and followers.
