It's Easy to Prevent a Urinary Tract Infection!

With a few simple steps, you can easily prevent a urinary tract infection, or UTI. A urinary tract infection can be uncomfortable at best, quite painful at worst. Prevention of urinary tract infections can be an easy part of your daily routine.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Yogurt
  • lots of water
  • dandelion root
  • proper hygiene
  1. Step 1

Eat more yogurt. Be sure the yogurt you eat contains active cultures. Those active cultures will help to keep naturally occurring bacteria within the urinary tract in check.

  2. Step 2

Drink lots of water throughout the day. Water will help to flush harmful bacteria through the urinary tract. The old adage about drinking 8 8-ounce glasses of water has recently been proven to have no scientific proof, but it is best to be sure you are properly hydrated at all times.

  3. Step 3

While you are drinking water, try drinking dandelion root tea or coffee. Dandelion is a natural diuretic which will help to flush harmful bacteria out. Dandelion also causes the bladder to have slight palpitations which will ensure more bacteria gets flushed out when you go to the bathroom. For tips on how to make and use dandelion root, see resources, below.

  4. Step 4

Speaking of going to the bathroom, the most important way to prevent a bladder infection is to ensure proper hygiene in the bathroom. Always wipe from front to back. The most common cause of UTI is e. Coli bacteria, which occurs naturally in the anus. So if the e.Coli goes from where it is supposed to be to where it is not supposed to be, then infection occurs.
