Things You'll Need:
- A Brain
- The ability to Listen
-
Step 1
Let me preface this with this: I love Harry Potter and have read the series several times as well as have seen the movies several times. I also acknowledge that it is not everyone's cup of tea and that we obsessed ones can be rather annoying. These are my tips for getting out of the conversations you want to have no part it.

Step 2
To begin, you generally need a friend who is obsessed with Harry Potter (HP) and won't leave you alone about it. There are seven HP books and there will be eight movies as the seventh book will be spilt into two parts. The sixth movie will be released this July (7/2009) so expect your obsessed friends to start kicking up the rhetoric soon.
The books are:
1. Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone
2. Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets
3. Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban
4. Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire
5. Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix
6. Harry Potter and the Half-blood Prince
7. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows
The main characters' names that you should be able to pronounce and speak about clearly are:
Harry Potter
Ron Weasley (Ron will suffice)
Hermione Granger (Her-my-own-knee)
Snape
Dumbledore
Voldermort
Ginny Weasley (Ron's little sister, Harry's future love interest)
The weasleys overall -
Step 3
The trick is to mention your favorite part of each book, your favorite part of each movie and to pick a favorite book overall. There are major relationship camps but they take way too much energy and are, in my humble opinion, asinine, so don't bother.
Here are my favorites but feel free to ad-lib as necessary
Book 1. Not really a favorite but Dudley (Harry's cousin) getting a pig's tail was great!
Book 2. Harry kinda becomes a badass in this one what with the saving Ginny from the Chamber and fighting off a basilisk (bigass snake that kills you with a look).
Book 3. (Most people's favorite) The time-turner bit was amazing, but it kind of made my head spin. Wish that Harry could've gone to live with Sirius (pronounced like serious)
Book 4. (My favorite) Scared the hell out of me when Voldemort came back! My god, the graveyard!
Book 5. Harry is a little whiney bitch for most of it but there is some serious ass-kicking in the end. My God, the ending made me cry!
Book 6. Finally, Harry and Ginny get together! Great story telling! But the ending; heart-breaking!!
Book 7. Wow, it's dark! At the beginning I thought Hagrid was a goner and when Ron left! The epilogue was decent but I would've liked more details...
Those sentences should get any die-hard HP fan chomping at the bit. They will take the bait and run, having an all-out debate, with you just nodding along.
As for the movies:
1. Looooved Diagon (Dye-ah-gone) Alley!
2. The chamber of secrets was perfect
3. Gary Oldham as Sirius was perfect!
4. Voldermort scared the hell out of me and the kids are really starting to act well
5. Loved the DA scenes, absolutely hilarious
Follow each of these up with, "What did you think?" People like to talk and they like people to listen, so just let them. -
Step 4
That should get you out of any tough situations you encounter. Also, visit mugglenet.com as their encyclopedia will give you any information you want/need.
Also, Read the books. They really are great. And if not, watch the movies. They're entertaining and it's fun to watch the kids grow into adults.
