How to Make Natural Egg Dyes for Easter

Just because the world seems to be running on easy fixes and microwave dinners does not mean every egg dye at Easter needs to come from a box. There are natural ways of coloring eggs with natural egg dyes.

Things You'll Need:

  • Canned Blueberries - Blue
  • Green Tea Bags - Yellow
  • Instant Coffee - Brown
  • Canned Beets - Pink
  • Raspberries - Red
  • Saucepan
  • Water
  • Vinegar
  • Bowls with Lids
  1. Step 1

    Boil the eggs. The first step in coloring eggs for Easter is hard boiling the eggs. The best method is the water / vinegar method. This envolves placing the eggs into a pan and covering with water. Add a couple of tablespoons of vinegar to the water and boil under hard cooked. This can take up to 10 minutes. Allow the eggs to cool.

  2. Step 2

    Color your Easter eggs naturally blue. Add a couple of eggs to an empty bowl. Add the canned blueberries, water and a tablespoon of vinegar and allow to sit overnight.

  3. Step 3

    Color your Easter eggs naturally yellow. For a yellow color add the inside of a few green tea bags instead of the canned blueberries.

  4. Step 4

    Color your Easter eggs naturally brown. The color brown is one of the easiest to create. Simply add instant coffee to the water / vinegar mixture and allow to sit.

  5. Step 5

    Color your Easter eggs naturally pink. Pink is another easy color to create. After draining the solid beets from the can, add the juice of the canned beets to the bowl with the tablespoon of vinegar.

  6. Step 6

    Color your Easter eggs naturally red. Red is one of the most popular Easter egg colors. To create red, add fresh raspberries that have been smashed lightly to the water / vinegar mixture.

Tips & Warnings
  • All Easter eggs should be left to sit covered in the refrigerator overnight.
  • Feel free to use white crayons to draw shapes onto the eggs before coloring.
