Subsidized government housing was established by the government to help people who cannot afford to live in decent areas. The division of the government that handles subsidized government housing is HUD. HUD has many housing agencies throughout the country to specifically help people in each county.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Go to your local housing agency to get information on what is required to apply for subsidized government housing. The housing employees should give you information such as income level and other things you’ll need to be qualified for in order to get into subsidized government housing.

  2. Step 2

Fill out the application for renting subsidized government housing. Provide to the housing agency proof that you meet all of their requirements.

  3. Step 3

Search for apartments and houses that are in HUD’s subsidized government housing program. You can either ask for a list from the housing agency or you can go to HUD’s website and search for them yourself.

  4. Step 4

Wait for awhile before getting into subsidized government housing. Subsidized government housing usually has a long waitlist and the list will be even longer during economic recessions since more people are out of work and need subsidized government housing.

Tips & Warnings
  • Subsidized government housing is also a good way for college students to get affordable living arrangements, assuming they are not dependent on their parents anymore.
