Choose a College or University

Choosing a college or university to get a higher education is a very big decision that should be made with care. There are many different characteristics to consider about a college or university before making a final decision to become a student at that school.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

One of the first things you must decide when choosing a college or university is what the field of study you wish to pursue. It is important that you research which schools offer the program that you want to study in. For example, if you want to study meteorology you need only look at the universities and colleges that offer a meteorology program.

  2. Step 2

Choosing a field of study or career preference helps to narrow the search for a higher education.

  3. Step 3

Money is a big part of a higher education. You now need to decide if you will live on campus, will you need student loans, do you have scholarships, etc. It is important to point out that if you attend a university or college far away, you will have to consider the living expenses in addition to the tuition and money for books.

  4. Step 4

Apply to several colleges and universities even if you think you know which one you want to attend. Things can change rather quickly for instance you may receive a scholarship that you qualify for just because of your previous records and grades. You may end up wanting to go the school that offered you a scholarship.

  5. Step 5

One of the most important steps in choosing a college or university campus to attend is to actually go and visit the campuses. Visiting a campus can make or break your decision based on the town surrounding the campus or the actual campus itself. If you don't like the town, chances are you aren't going to be happy on that campus for very long.
