Things You'll Need:
- lunch box
- thermos
-
Step 1
Pack your lunch. Driving to a restaurant can waste gas and you will likely end up not eating a very healthy meal anyway. Packing your lunch is a good way to eat leftovers from home so they are not wasted.
-
Step 2
Bring a lunchbox. No, you do not have to get one with Hannah Montana or Spiderman on it. They have very nice lunchboxes now that even have built-in ice packs. You can also carry your lunch in a re-usable bag. If you do use a brown bag or plastic bag, recycling them when you are finished is environmentally responsible.
-
Step 3
Pack your food in containers. Sandwich baggies and aluminum foil will end up in a landfill if you do not recycle them (which may be hard to do at work). Purchasing a set of plastic or glass containers (glass is better if you are going to heat your meals) just to bring in your lunch is a great way to green up your life.
-
Step 4
Buy organic food. Organic food is better for the environment because it uses less water, fertilizers, and pesticides to be produced. The ability to pack a lunch with organic food is another reason brining your lunch is more environmentally friendly than going out to eat.
-
Step 5
Remember restaurant rules. If you do want to go out to eat, try to carpool. Suggest a place that serves organic food options. Take leftovers home in as small a container as possible, then bring that same container to work the next day (and recycle it when you are finished).

on 4/9/2009 Packaging is so important - people don't realize that millions of others are also throwing away foil, baggies, and other packaging. Reusing a plastic container is much more environmentally friendly. When it gets worn out, just toss it in the recycling bin. Thank you for your tips!
