Make Ribbons for Corsages

Ribbons and bows give corsages a finished look. You can use a variety of ribbon types or lace for a corsage bow. A child size corsage will look best with four small loops while an adult corsage can have six to eight loops. It can be a little tricky to control the ribbon and make your first bow. You can learn to make a fluffy ribbon bow for a fresh or silk corsage.

Instructions

    • 1

Cut a 6-inch long piece of 1/2-inch wide ribbon. Tie a knot in the center of the piece of ribbon.

    • 2

Make a 2-inch long loop. Hold the loop between your thumb and forefinger.

    • 3

Twist the ribbon and form a loop opposite the first loop.

    • 4

Continue twisting the ribbon to turn it right side out and form a loop. Make three to four loops on either side for a total of six to eight loops.

    • 5

Wrap the knotted piece of ribbon around the center of the bow. The knot will be at the very center of the front of the bow. Tie the ribbon tightly at the back of the bow to secure the center.

    • 6

Hold the bow against the floral wrapped stem of the corsage. Tie the bow tightly to the side or bottom of the corsage.

Tips & Warnings

  • Keep loops even to maintain an evenly shaped bow.

  • Hold the bow tightly between your thumb and forefinger to keep from losing the ribbon loops.
