How to Block Websites From Your Internet Explorer

The Internet is a vast compilation of information and resources, and as such can be a huge asset to nearly everyone. However, not all of the information on the Internet is appropriate for the range of Internet users. There is an abundance of information on the Internet targeted specifically to adults, and there are other things that you may not want to allow access to on your computer, such as viruses, spyware and/or hackers. These things can cause great harm to your files, folders and programs. To keep viruses, spyware and hackers from destroying or gaining access to any of your information, learn how to block inappropriate and/or unsecure sites.

Instructions

    • 1

Open Internet Explorer and click on the "Tools" menu at the top of the window.

    • 2

Select "Internet Options" from the drop-down list.

    • 3

Click on the "Content" tab in that window.

    • 4

Click "Enable" in the content advisor box, then click the "Approved Sites" tab in the window that opens.

    • 5

Type in the address of the site you wish to block, click "Never" and select "OK."

    • 6

Navigate to the "General" tab where you can set up a password and hint that will allow you access to the restricted sites.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you wish to block all pages associated with a website, you simply use a "*" before the site address. Example: "*.xxx.com" blocks all pages associated with the URL"http://www.xxx.com/."

  • If the site has been visited and is cached in your computer, a link from a search engine may bring up the earlier, saved version of the site.
