Have you ever wanted to capture a single image or set of images from a DVD? Maybe capturing that funny face your favorite actor made or grab a screen shot to prove a point or win a bet? While the process of capturing a still picture from a DVD may sound difficult, it is actually quite easy. How you go about capturing the image will depend on the type of computer you have and the type of software you prefer to use.

Instructions When Using Windows Media Player

Open Microsoft Word or Paint and minimize the program. It does not matter which program you choose to use. They work equally well.

Insert the DVD into your computer's DVD drive.

Open the DVD with Windows Media Player. Forward the movie until you find the image that you want to capture and press "'Pause.

Press the "Alt" and "Print Screen" button at the same time. This will copy the image that is on your computer screen.

Maximize Microsoft Word or Paint and right-click on your mouse. Select paste to copy the image to Word or Paint. If you prefer you can press "Ctrl" and "V" at the same time to paste the image to Microsoft Word or Paint.

Save the captured image to your computer.

Instructions When Using Vista Snipping Tool

Open your Vista Snipping Tool. If you cannot locate it, simply type in "snipping tool" into your search bar. Minimize the tool for later.

Insert the DVD into your computer's DVD drive and open with your preferred media player.

Forward the movie to the image you would like to capture and press "Pause."

Expand the Snipping Tool and select the "New" button. This will produce a drop down menu that will enable you to capture the whole screen or a portion of the screen. You can capture the image with a rectangular crop or with a free from crop.

Save the image to your computer.

Instructions When Using a Mac computer

Insert the DVD into your Mac's DVD drive. When the movie begins to play, forward the DVD to the image you would like to capture.

Press the "Command," "Shift" and the number "4" button at the same time.

Using your cursor select the amount of the image that you would like to capture. Press the "Save" button to save to your Mac.

Tips

If you are using a Mac and would like to capture the entire screen, press "Command," "Shift" and the number "3" at the same time. The Vista Snipping Tool will white out any area you choose not to save.
