How to Hang a Mirror Ball

In times past, hanging a mirror ball required installing wiring so that the ball could spin. Modern mirror balls are battery powered and also much lighter than they used to be. Nowadays installation takes little more than dropping the mirror ball in place over a ceiling hook. Once the mirror ball is hung, you may need a stepladder or step stool to reach its on/off switch.

Instructions

1. Check the packaging for the weight of your mirror ball or, if the packaging isn't available or doesn't specify, take it to the supermarket and weight it in a produce scale.

2. Make sure that your plant hooks or ceiling hooks are of sufficient capacity to support the weight of the mirror ball. This should be clearly indicated on the ceiling hook packaging.

3. Locate a ceiling stud by using a stud finder or knocking in a straight line across the ceiling, using consistent pressure each time you knock. When you find a spot, several inches wide, that doesn't resound hollowly from your knocking, this is a ceiling support.

4. Screw the ceiling hook into the ceiling stud. Most ceiling hooks are self-screwing, meaning that you don't need to install additional hardware to hold them in place. Wiggle the hook to make sure it's solid.

5. Make sure that any necessary batteries are inserted in your mirror ball and that it's switched off.

6. Place the eye loop of the mirror ball through the ceiling hook.
