Things You'll Need:

  • Cornmeal or flour
  • Water
  • Medium bowl
  • Wooden spoon
  • Wax paper
  • Tortilla machine
  • Griddle
  1. Step 1

Heat the griddle to a medium high temperature.

  2. Step 2

Pour approximately 2 cups of cornmeal or flour into the bowl. It is not necessary to be precise in measurements. Add water in tablespoon increments and stir with the wooden spoon until the dough holds together and is no longer crumbly.

  3. Step 3

Place a sheet of wax paper on the bottom surface of the tortilla machine.

  4. Step 4

Make a ball of dough that fits into the palm of your hand. Roll the dough between your hands until it is round.

  5. Step 5

Place the dough ball in the center of the wax paper on the tortilla machine.

  6. Step 6

Top the dough ball with another sheet of wax paper.

  7. Step 7

Press the handle of the tortilla machine down and hold it down for several seconds. Raise the handle.

  8. Step 8

Remove the sheets of wax paper and place the tortilla onto the hot griddle.

  9. Step 9

Flip the tortilla when bubbles appear on the top surface of the tortilla. Allow the tortilla to cook on the other side and remove when it is browned to your liking.

  10. Step 10

Repeat Steps 4 through 9 to make as many tortillas as desired.
