Instructions

    • 1

Create a homemade salve. Take one tablespoon each of burdock root, yellow dock root and yarrow, and steep them in one pint of boiling water for 30 minutes. Strain the liquid into a large stock pot. Add one pound of vegetable shortening. Boil slowly until a smooth, salve-like consistency is reached. Allow to cool, then apply directly to the rash.

    • 2

Bathe the affected area in a tea made from burdock root, yellow dock root, golden seal root and/or yarrow. These herbs are believed to possess powerful anti-itching properties. Use them alone or in combination.

    • 3

Apply the fresh gel from an Aloe vera leaf directly to the affected area. Aloe is healing, soothing and used to treat many different itchy skin problems. If fresh gel is not available, use prepared gel, but make sure it is pure and organic, with no additives that may aggravate the rash.

    • 4

Soak in a bath of warm water containing one cup of baking soda. This is especially helpful for hard-to-reach or widespread itching, and will bring almost immediate relief. Soak for between 30 minutes and one hour. Allow the body to air-dry.

    • 5

Squeeze undiluted lemon juice directly onto the affected skin. Lemon juice contains anti-inflammatory agents that can aid itching. Allow the juice to dry on the skin, and repeat as necessary.

Tips & Warnings

  • To treat small itchy areas, combine three parts baking soda with one part water. Apply to the rash.

  • Do not use baking soda or lemon juice on broken skin. Herbal teas and salves may be used, but it is recommended that you consult a physician if the skin is broken as it may be a sign of a more serious condition or infection.
