How to Remove a SmartWater Filter

Your SmartWater filter should be located behind your GE SmartWater refrigerator, most likely hanging from a small bracket or manifold mounted on the wall. Removing the SmartWater filter doesn't require any tools at all and takes just a few moments. Before you begin, make sure you know where the shut-off knob is for the water supply to your GE SmartWater refrigerator.

    Instructions

      • 1

Locate the source of the water supply to your refrigerator and twist the knob all the way to the left, shutting down the flow.

      • 2

Dispense water from your refrigerator until nothing comes out; this clears the tubing and filter as much as possible.

      • 3

Drag the refrigerator forward until you can locate the SmartWater filter. It should be either mounted on a wall bracket or attached to the back of the refrigerator.

      • 4

Remove the filter by unscrewing it from its housing. Be ready to catch any dripping water with a clean rag or towel.

      • 5

Replace the filter with a new one if you so desire: Just screw it into place.

      • 6

Return the refrigerator to its original location and turn the water supply back on.
