One-of-a-kind jewelry pins can be a striking accent or conversation piece to wear with any outfit. Different materials can be used to create a jewelry pin, including pearl, fabric and antique buttons, as well as rhinestones and odd or broken pieces of other jewelry. Coordinated colors and textures will turn a simple piece into an interesting pin that will fetch compliments.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Metal jewelry pin clasp
  • Super glue
  • Plastic backing piece 1-inch by 1 1/2-inch
  • Assorted pearl, fabric and antique buttons
  • Rhinestones
  • Broken pieces of jewelry (such as earrings)
  • Small tassel
  1. Step 1

Secure the jewelry pin clasp to the plastic pin backing with super glue. Let dry.

  2. Step 2

Arrange the jewelry embellishments on the plastic backing and rearrange as desired. Large pieces should be in the back and on the corners, with the smaller pieces on top and a center piece that is the focal point. Carefully move the embellishments to the side, but in the order they are to be attached to the pin.

  3. Step 3

Attach the small tassel on the center bottom of the plastic backing with super glue. Starting with the larger embellishment pieces, secure them with super glue to the four corners of the plastic backing piece.

  4. Step 4

Attach the smaller pieces on top of the first pieces side by side, with the smallest pieces last. Attach the focal point in the center of the pin. Let dry.

  5. Step 5

Attach several of the tiniest jewels and embellishments, such as pearls, into the crevices with super glue. Let dry.

Tips & Warnings
  • Mix and match real jewels with pretty buttons that will complement each other. Antique and second-hand stores are excellent sources of materials for this project. This does not have to be an expensive project.
  • An adult should help children in this project, especially with using super glue.
