How to Organize a Cedar Closet

Cedar is an aromatic wood with a lovely reddish tone. It also acts as a natural pest repellent, making it a natural choice for closets and storage spaces. If your closet isn't made of cedar, consider adding a few inexpensive cedar shims to give your closet a cedar aroma and keep pests away from your clothing.

Instructions

1. Identify the clothes that must hang, and those that can be folded and stacked.

2. Purchase appropriate hangers for all hanging clothes. For skirts, use hangers that compress the waistband between two planks of wood. Drape slacks on a hanger with a horizontal rod. For shirts, choose hangers that match the natural shape of your shoulders. For nicer blouses and dresses with built-in hanging straps, hook the loops onto a hanger with notches.

3. Arrange the hangers by usage and garment type. Hang items you hardly ever wear in the back corner of the closet. Position frequently-worn items in the front of the closet, where you can easily access them. Hang dresses together, blouses together, and so on.

4. Fold and stack garments like T-shirts and casual pants on shelves. Organize items by type. Put the least-used items at the bottom of the stack.
