      You will need to finish secondary school, or what is called high school in the United States, in order to work toward becoming a dentist in Ireland. When you complete your secondary schooling you will need to get a Leaving Certificate.

      Score well on your Leaving Certificate examinations. You will be awarded points based on your scores in six subjects on your Leaving Certificate examinations. The maximum awarded is 100 points per subject for a total of 600 points. You will need to score as many points as possible to enter a program of dentistry in Ireland.

      Once you have taken your Leaving Certificate examinations, you will need to apply to a university dentistry program. Competition for the Dentistry programs is fierce and your high points level on your Leaving Certificate examinations will help your chances. University College Cork and Trinity College Dublin are the universities in Ireland that offer dentistry programs. In Northern Ireland, Queen's University Belfast offers a dentistry program.

      Obtain a bachelor's degree in dentistry. You will need to complete the five-year dentistry program in order to be a dentist in Ireland. Part of the program is textbook-based learning while the latter part of the learning is hands-on experience learning.

      Get licensed as a dentist in Ireland. Once you have earned your Bachelor's in dentistry, you can look for work as a dentist in Ireland while you wait to become fully licensed. You will have to work supervised for a full year before you are able to be certified as licensed dentist in Ireland by the Irish Dental Association.
