Making a bed seems to be one of the simplest tasks in the home. However, when you add in dust ruffles, pillow shams, duvet covers and all that frilly stuff, it can prove more difficult. Many a man has asked why on earth you would have pillows that you don't use, but any home decorator knows that a pillow in a sham completes the look of a well-made bed.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Place the fitted sheet, top sheet and blanket on the bed. These are the underpinnings of a well-made bed. Make sure that you tuck in any hanging edges so that they will be covered by the bedspread of conforter.

  2. Step 2

Spread out the bedspread or comforter on top of these items, so that it hangs evenly on the sides and bottom of the bed. Fold the top of the comforter down about one third from the head of the bed.

  3. Step 3

Insert the pillows into the pillow slips. These are the pillows you will actually be using. Place them at the head of the bed, with the openings of the slips facing the outside of the bed.

  4. Step 4

Cover the pillows with the bedspread or comforter, tucking it underneath the bottom edge of the pillows and pleating it down the sides so that it falls neatly.

  5. Step 5

Tuck the other pillows into the shams and make sure they are fluffed and plump. These should be placed leaning against the pillows that are already on the bed. Straighten and smooth any ruffles and trim so that the sham is attractively arranged.
