How to Replace a Dishwasher Door Gasket

The door gasket creates a tight seal when the dishwasher is closed to keep water from leaking through. With time, the gasket may shrink, crack or tear so that it can no longer seal the door properly. Gaskets that have become hard with age will no longer seal properly either, so if your dishwasher door leaks and the gasket still looks OK, pull it out and check that it is still soft.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Soak the new gasket in hot water to make it easier to seat and seal.

  2. Step 2

Open the dishwasher door and pull out the old gasket.

  3. Step 3

Start on the bottom-right side of the door and gently work the new gasket into the recess.

  4. Step 4

Place the other end of the gasket flush with the bottom-left side of the door recess and push in the gasket, working up the left side and across the top.

  5. Step 5

Check that the door closes tightly, then start a wash cycle to check the gasket for leaks.
