How to Make a Mouse Trap with a Bucket

Mice and rodents can carry disease, destroy walls and get into food items in your home. Mouse traps can be a bloody mess, and dead mice can be difficult to find after they consume poison. An easy solution is to use one of the oldest trap methods: trapping a mouse in a bucket of water. Does this Spark an idea?

  • 2½- to 5-gallon bucket
  • String
  • Water
  • Peanut butter

      Fill the bucket ... full with water (more than 4 inches deep).

      Tape a piece of string across the diameter of the bucket to create a "tightrope" that halves the opening in the bucket over the water below.

      Tie a 6-inch string to the center of this string. Fold a 1-by-1-inch square of tape over the end of this piece of string, leaving it dangling over the water.

      Spread peanut butter on the square piece of tape at the end of the string. This will draw mice onto the string. They will climb down the center string and fall into the water. The mice will swim for about 20 minutes and then drown.
