How to Change Infant Formula Brands
Determining which infant formula brand is best for your child should be done in consultation with your child's pediatrician. Some babies require special needs formulas, such as those made especially for lactose intolerance or other allergies. Changing the brand for your infant could cause severe problems. For a normal baby, many of the brand name formulas are virtually the same and can be swapped with no ill effects if you have coupons or your store is out of your regular brand.

1
Talk to your infant's pediatrician if your child is experiencing any negative health problems on the infant formula the child is currently drinking. The doctor may recommend that you change to soy based or another specialty formula.
-
2
Discuss with the pediatrician if it is permissible to swap between the major brands of infant formula to take advantage of coupons or store specials. Often this is not a problem, but you do want the doctor to be aware of what you are doing in case there are problems.

Make the switch gradually. Offer your child a bottle made with the new brand of formula, but have a second bottle ready made from the brand the baby is used to drinking. If your child refuses to drink the new brand, revert back to the old brand for the feeding.

Avoid switching brands too often. While most major brands are formulated the same way, small differences may cause your child stomach upsets or other discomforts.

Tips & Warnings
Always stay with infant formula brands that are manufactured by reputable companies that have a history of creating superior child nutrition.
Never change from one type--for example, soy based to milk based formulas--without checking with your pediatrician. While all infant formulas on the market today meet the standards for a child's nutritional needs, some formulas may cause more digestion or other health problems than the cost differences make up for.
