A Trojan virus is a program written to hide inside another program. At certain times or when a specific action occurs, the virus will be programmed to detonate and start causing trouble or causing damage to your computer. There are hundreds of different types of Trojan viruses and they can hide in all sorts of different types of files on your computer. However, getting rid of most Trojan viruses is not difficult, you just need a good anti-virus program.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Internet Connection
  1. Step 1

Download AVG AntiVirus program and install it (see link in Resources).

  2. Step 2

Allow the AVG software, as part of the installation, to scan your entire computer. This will be the last step in the installation process, and the program will ask if you want to do a complete scan. Be sure to click "Yes" and allow the scan to complete. This may take a long time on older computers or computers with large hard drives.

  3. Step 3

Read the summary screen that appears after the scan finishes. This screen will let you know if it found any viruses, where it found them and the names of the viruses.

  4. Step 4

Remove all the unhealed infections by clicking the button that appears on the summary screen. This action will remove additional viruses not removed with the initial scan. This may delete files as well, but this is the only way to remove the virus. With Trojan viruses, most will be removed without damaging the original files.

  5. Step 5

Ensure that the AVG program remains running in the background. This will help your computer to not be infected by another virus in the future.

Tips & Warnings
