How to Arrange the Speakers for a Good DJ Sound

With the vast array of technology at your disposal, you can literally be a DJ with just an iPod and a small iPod dock. However, in order to really get a good sound, you do need some additional equipment and some knowledge about how to use that equipment. Whether you ultimately elect to "spin" as a DJ or just do it informally at friends' parties, knowing how to arrange your speakers can completely change the way that your sound operates.

Instructions

    • 1

Set up the tweeter speakers for diagonal sounds. The room is your canvas, and you must be an artist. Thumping lows can be heard anywhere, but the high tweeters must be directed. From one corner to the next, each tweeter should be placed so that the sound points diagonally from corner to corner.

    • 2

Place your bass speakers centrally. The bass or lows need to be concentrated more in the middle, booming out across the room. They do not have to be in the middle of the room, but they do need to be located as much front and center as possible.

    • 3

Fill in the "blanks" in your sound canvas. If there is an alternate speaker, it should be set up at the far end of the room, almost centered. This will completely fill any room from corner to corner and center ahead, with quality sound for any occasion.

Test your sound. If you have access to the room before the event starts but after everything has been set up, give yourself a few test runs to see how things sound. If necessary, move things around slightly until you feel confident about your DJ sound.

Tips & Warnings

  • You will need to factor in the type of party you are DJing when you set up. If it is a rock 'n' roll type party, then your guests may want to really be blasted with waves of music. Other parties will be lower-key.
