Things You'll Need:
- Steak
- Onion
- 2 garlic cloves
- Bell pepper
- 1 can sliced mushrooms
- Butter
- Large skillet
- Black pepper
- Salt
- Garlic powder
-
Step 1
Decide which type of steak you want to be pan fried. You can fry just about any kind of steak, from sirloin steak to minute steak. Try to get steak that is about 3/4 of an inch thick for best results. Bring the steaks to room temperature by taking them out of the refrigerator 20 or 30 minutes before cooking them.
-
Step 2
Tenderize the steak if it's a tougher cut of meat. You can do this by either pounding the steak on both sides or by scoring the surface of the steak with a knife. You may also want to add a little water to your melted butter and skillet. The water will help tenderize the steak while cooking.
-
Step 3
Peel the onion and the garlic, then cut them and the bell pepper into strips. Open up the can of sliced mushrooms and drain all of the water off of them.
-
Step 4
Put 4 or 5 tbsp. of butter in a large skillet and melt over medium heat. Don't let the butter get too hot or it may turn brown.
-
Step 5
Add all the cut vegetables into the skillet. Cook them on medium high heat until they are tender, or no more than 5 minutes. Stir or toss to keep them from sticking to the skillet and burning.
-
Step 6
Rub black pepper, salt and garlic powder onto both sides of your steaks. You can season your steaks as much as you want, or not at all. You can also marinade the steaks the night before.
-
Step 7
Keep the heat at medium high and add more butter if needed. Place steaks in the skillet either on top of the cooked vegetables or spoon them on top of the steak. For well done, let cook 5 minutes on each side or for less done steaks, take a minute off of the cooking time. Take out of the pan and place on plates.
