How to Modify Information on a Hosted Website
Website management is a constant task and one that can require a number of disciplines and code knowledge, depending on the kind of site and content management system used. Conversely, some hosted sites can be modified simply via word processor-type applications. Whichever the case, as long as you have your logins/permissions in hand, navigating the file structure of your website and modifying your information is not a task that need always take more than a few minutes.

1
Discover the location of the Control Management System (CMS) or administration area. Depending on the website type and setup, this can be anything from simply logging into the administration area of a blog CMS like Wordpress (via "domainnameexample.com/wp-admin/") or logging directly into a website file management system like cPanel (in this case, usually via "domainnameexample.com/cpanel").
-
2
Input the correct login. You will need at least "writer" or "contributor" permissions and an associated username and password for a CMS like Wordpress, or an administrator password if you need to log directly into a file management structure like cPanel, where larger-scale changes can be made.

3
Click on "Edit" under the Posts section on the left sidebar of the Wordpress CMS (for non-Wordpress or Blogspot-style site changes, advance to Step 5). Then, roll your mouse or trackpad over the specific blog post you wish to modify. A series of options will then pop up below the post title, so long as your mouse pointer remains hovering over. Click on the "Edit" option.
-
4
Click inside the text box that pops up to edit the body of the blog post, or click inside the title bar to edit the blog title itself. Modify the information as desired, and then click on the blue "Update Post" button on the top-right side of the page.
-
5
Modify information via the file structure in file system management programs like cPanel. In the specific case of cPanel, a user should click on the "File Manager" icon underneath the Files heading, which is the section directly below both the Preferences and Mail sections.
-
6
Select "Home Directory" from the pop-up box that appears, and then click "Go."
-
7
Select the files you wish to modify from this listing. Most such content files will be located within the "www" folder, which you will need to double-click. Then, sort through the files and folders to locate the documents you wish to edit, and double-click them again. These will often be files such as "index.html" or "index.php."
-
8
Check the box beside the desired file, and then hit the "Code Editor" button on the top menu bar of the page. A pop-up screen will appear with the full content of that file. Make changes as you desire, but keep in mind that unlike Wordpress or Blogspot, editing files such as these can require HTML and/or PHP coding knowledge. When the changes are made, click on the "Save Changes" button at the top right. Your hosted website information is updated.
