You don't need a degree in chemistry to create your own beauty products. The truth is that all you really need is some key ingredients that can be purchased online and a few recipes that, with practice, you can even come up with on your own. Things You'll Need

Create your own lip balm. You will need a tablespoon of beeswax beads or grated beeswax, 2 tsps. of olive oil, and 1 tsp. of vitamin E. Optionally, you can add a 1/2 tsp. of vanilla extract or a few drops of orange essential oil to give the lip balm a nice scent. Place the beeswax in a Pyrex cup, and place the cup in warm water until the beeswax has melted. Add the olive oil, vitamin E and fragrance, and stir well until all the ingredients have blended. Pour into lip balm tubes or jars, and allow to cool before use.

Create a citrus-scented hair conditioner using molasses and honey. This is a moisturizing hair conditioner that will leave your strands looking shiny and feeling soft. You will need a tablespoon of honey, 1/4 cup molasses, 1 Tbsp. olive oil, 1 Tbsp. castor oil, 1 Tbsp. shea butter, 1/4 cup water, 1 egg yolk, 5 drops orange essential oil and 5 drops lemon essential oil. Heat the water slightly in a microwave, then mix in the egg yolk, and set aside. Combine all other ingredients in a Pyrex cup, and melt by placing in a hot water bath. Stir the ingredients once melted to blend them completely. Combine the water and egg yolk mixture with the melted wax mixture, and whip with an electric blender until you have a creamy consistency. Apply to damp hair after shampooing, and rinse after about 5 minutes.

Create an exfoliating body scrub to rid your skin of impurities and leave it glowing. You will need 1 cup of white or brown sugar, a dash of cinnamon for scent, 1 cup of freshly squeezed lemon juice, and 2 Tbsps. olive oil. You can also add a few drops of essential oil of your choice for added fragrance. Combine all ingredients in a plastic bowl, and stir to blend completely. Apply to damp skin to remove dead skin cells and smooth skin.

Make a minty body lotion to leave skin feeling silky and soft. You will need 26 grams liquid shea butter, 4 grams honey, 2 grams stearic acid, 60 grams distilled water, 25 drops of peppermint essential oil, 1/4 tsp. borax and 1/8 tsp. xanthan gum. Combine the shea butter and stearic acid in a Pyrex cup, and place in hot-water bath until melted. Stir and set aside. Combine the remaining ingredients in a separate Pyrex cup, and place in hot-water bath until melted. Stir, and set aside. Pour the shea butter/stearic acid into a plastic mixing bowl. Set an electric mixer on low or medium speed, and gently beat the mixture. Slowly add the water/honey mixture as you beat. Whip the mixture for about 5 minutes or until you notice it thickening. Apply all over body, concentrating on rough areas like the elbows and knees.

Create a creamy eye shadow in a bold color. You will need a teaspoon of unblended mica in a bright color (some great options include deep blue, rosado and silver grey), and a teaspoon of cream eyeshadow base. These can both be purchased from makeup wholesalers like Monave Cosmetics. Grind the mica to remove any lumps or clumps; you can use a minigrinder or a regular coffee grinder. Combine the mica and cream base, and stir with a spatula to blend the pigment into the cream thoroughly. Continue blending until the color is uniform. Store in a glass jar for future use.

Tips & Warnings
Keep your beauty products refrigerated to prolong their shelf life. You can also add the preservative of your choice to make these beauty products (particularly the body scrub and body lotion) last much longer.
