Angels remind us that we are not alone but that we are surrounded by love. Angel pins have been made throughout history to let us know we are cared for. Young children have always enjoyed creating angels with paper, and these pins are a delightful subject. As a rainy day craft, this activity can be fun for the entire family.

Things You'll Need

  • Heavy white paper
  • Scissors
  • Pencil
  • Colored markers (brown, red, pink, dark pink, brown, gray or light blue)

Instructions

    • 1

Fold the paper in half. Draw the outline of one wing onto the white paper starting at the fold with the widest part of the wings first. The wing should resemble a leaf shape rounded on one side with a point on the end. Turn the paper over and hold it against a window so the light will come through making it easy to trace the other half of the wings onto the other side of the paper. The wings should be about 5 inches across.

    • 2

Draw a circle for the angel's head using the bottom of a round glue bottle or something equal to the size you want. The head on this angel is 1 1/4 inches in diameter.

    • 3

Use the markers to color the face and add the features. The face will be pink, the lines for the eyes and eyelashes are brown, the lips are heart shaped in red with a smile line drawn through them and the cheeks have circles of darker pink for a rosy glow. The hair lines are drawn in like the shape of commas in different directions using brown.

    • 4

Define the wings by adding feather strokes with the gray or blue marker starting from the center of the wings where they connect and drawing a curved horizontal line out toward the edge of the wings.

    • 5

Cut the wings out. Make scallops after you have finished cutting them by folding the wings in half vertically at the center and trimming the bottom edge of the wings in rounded curves.

    • 6

Cut the angel head out and cut a 1-inch length of gold cord. Cut another length for the hanger about 2 to 3 inches long. Loop and glue the 1-inch cord onto the back of the angel head and glue the head to the wings. Let the glue dry before gluing the looped hanger to the back of the angel.

Tips & Warnings

  • Use the side of the pencil to curl the wings by wrapping the wings around the pencil and holding it tight for a few seconds. Spray the angel with sparkle glitter varnish.

  • Children should be monitored when using markers, scissors, varnish and glue.
