Things You'll Need:
- Memory foam mattress topper
- Tape measure
- Scissors
- Fleece fabric
- Thread
- Pins
- Sewing machine
- 12 Velcro fasteners
-
Step 1
Cut a 72-inch-long twin-size memory foam mattress topper in half lengthwise to create two 36-inch strips. Cut 28 inches off each strip. Stack the two 28-by-36-inch rectangles. Set aside.
-
Step 2
From the fleece fabric, cut two 29-by-37 inch rectangles. Cut two 29-by-4-inch strips and three 37-by-4-inch strips of the same fabric. With right sides together, pin the short edges of the two 29-inch strips to each short end of one 37-inch strip. Stitch seams. On each end of the pieced-together strip, fold raw edges under 1/2 inch and stitch.
-
Step 3
Fit and pin the pieced-together strip to three sides of one rectangle. Sew, using a 1/2-inch seam. At each corner, stop the sewing machine with the needle down and pivot the fabric. Sew the other rectangle to the opposite side of the strip in the same manner. You now have a box shape with one open side.
-
Step 4
Fold under 1/2 inch on the long edge of the remaining 4-by-37-inch strips. Stitch. With right sides together, sew the raw edges of each strip to the top and bottom of the opening. One strip will flap up, and one strip will flap down over the first flap.
-
Step 5
Position one side of a Velcro fastener every 6 inches face up across one flap, with six running across the top of the flap and six running across the bottom. This will be the inside flap and will fold upward. Position the other side of the Velcro on the underside of the other flap, spacing to correspond with the Velcro already in place.
-
Step 6
Slip the two layers of memory foam into the fabric case. Press together the Velcro on the flaps to close.
