Draw Lowrider Cars

Lowrider cars have lots of personality. Each car is usually custom built from the frame, to the tires and rims and all the way up to the paint job. Drawing a lowrider car can be a great way to design or test out paint jobs and graphic details. For the example in this article, you will be drawing a lowrider version of a 1969 Cadillac. This type of car is perfect for the lowrider culture. The 1969 Cadillac has plenty of interior room to add large comfortable seats, extra speakers, and even small televisions. Drawing this type of car can be done simply by examining the basic shapes that it is made from and adding to this basic frame.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Paper
  • Pencil
  • Black ink pen
  • Eraser
  • Colored pencils
  1. Step 1

Draw a large rectangle in the center of the page. This will be the front of the car. Add a trapezoid on top of the rectangle for the hood of the car. Do this with two diagonal lines coming off the upper right and left corners of the rectangle. Connect these lines with a horizontal line. Attach a smaller rectangular shape on top of this trapezoid for the front windshield.

  2. Step 2

Draw the front grille with two squares in the center of the front of the car. Make these two squares tilted diagonally upwards on their outside edges. Add the headlights with two rectangles attached to the left and right side of the grill. Add the bumper with a long, thin rectangle at the bottom front of the car. Draw the side view mirrors with two rectangles on the side of the windows.

  3. Step 3

Draw the wheels with two small rectangles on the bottom left and right of the front of the car. Draw two small circles side by side inside each headlights. Draw the grille marks with vertical lines. Intersect these with horizontal lines to create a cross hatch effect.

  4. Step 4

Erase any overlapping lines so that you have only the pencil lines you wish to keep. Trace an ink pen across all of the pencil lines. Let the ink dry and carefully erase the pencil lines.

  5. Step 5

Color the body of the car red. Color the front windshield dark gray. Color the grille and bumper gray. Use an orange colored pencil to add highlights to the body of the car. Color the front of the car with the orange and, as you move further up the body, ease up on the pressure on the pencil to lighten the strokes. Add highlights to the grill and bumper with a white colored pencil. Add heavy strokes on the corners of the bumper and grill. Color the tires black.

Tips & Warnings
  • You can add different designs on the body of the car. One idea is to add different poker or playing card designs like clubs, diamonds or spades.
  • Be sure to let the ink dry before you erase the pencil, or the illustration will smudge.
