How to Treat a Urinary Tract Infection in Cats
It is extremely common for cats to get a urinary tract infection. The proper name for the disease is called Feline Lower Urinary Tract Disease. This disease causes blood and crystals to be present in the urine. Cats will feel like they have to go to the bathroom, but then when they try to go they can't. They may even have accidents around the house. Just remember that your cat can't help this. You should get your cat treated right away.

1
Take your cat to the Vet as soon as you recognize that it is having trouble urinating. Your cat may have a more serious condition such as a stone in the bladder. This must be ruled out and a treatment plan must be put in place.

2
Give your cat the medication your doctor prescribes. This will either be Baytril or Orbafloxacin. It comes in a tablet form that must be crushed and mixed in with a can of wet cat food.

3
Replace your cats water daily and clean out its water dish. Your cat should have access to as much clean water as possible.
-
4
Give your cat canned, wet cat food. This contains more water in it than dry food and this will help flush the bladder out.

5
Buy a 500 mg chewable tablet of vitamin C. You can get some at GNC. Crush one tablet up each day for 4 or 5 days and put it in your cat's can of wet food. Make sure you mix it well so that the cat doesn't know it is there.
